Unfortunately, not many of us have the ability to book a flight to the USA whenever we’re craving a stack of pancakes with bacon and drizzled with maple syrup – sad, really. Luckily, we have the next best thing – our list of ‘go to’ American diners, cafes and restaurants in Brisbane.

5 Boroughs – Stones Corner
Inspired by the 5 boroughs of New York City – Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and The Bronx – 5 Boroughs has harnessed fresh and local ingredients to recreate our favourite street eats from the Big Apple. This place is your one stop shop for burgers with the lot, with stacks featuring crispy onions and grass-fed rump and fried chicken katsu.

NKB Express – Indooroopilly
If you’re on the West side of Brisbane, NKB Express should definitely be at the top of your list of American eats. The 1940s diner fit-out will transport you to the bustling streets of Brooklyn, and their menu definitely follows suit. For those of us that love a nice, hearty breakfast, and jump at the idea of a good ol’ American stack of waffles or bagel with the lot, then NKB Express has us sorted. Think waffles named after New York attractions (our pick is Coney Island, of course!), and hot dogs inspired by those you’d get from street vendors.

California Native – Coorparoo
Feeling like something more from the West Coast? California Native has you covered. Think Mexican meets American. Our fav dish is the chowder. If that’s not your thing though, there’s plenty of burgers and tacos to keep your grumbling stomach at bay. It’s also a boutique bar, so we’d recommend checking out their Californian cocktail menu to complete the Californian experience.

Getta Burger – Various Locations
Stemmed from a humble food truck, the guys at Getta Burger have perfected the American-style burger. With a slow-cooked meat of your choice, a fresh bun, your additions and the best sauce you’ll ever have – Getta Burger’s will top all other burgers. They also have a range of sides, and even offer fries INSIDE your burger – what’s more American than that??
