Lauren - Little Lioness Co
Lauren is the face behind the small handmade business, Little Lioness. Co. Having found no job opportunities in my tertiary field of Environmental Science, she decided to follow her side hobby into jewellery making. Over the last 14 months she has been deigning, creating and selling her jewellery through Etsy, reaching over 350 sales. This year she is entering her first year of her Masters in Primary Teaching, with the vision of operating her jewellery business alongside her teaching career.
What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?
Be brave in following your passion. Follow your strengths and follow your wildest ideas, no matter how crazy they may seem in the present.
What makes you proud to be a woman?
When being denied opportunities for being woman, we are instead innovative in creating our own opportunities. I am proud to be involved in an amazing network of women dominated small businesses who constantly support each other. Little Lioness. Co has taken me to a whole new world of imagination and creativity through social networks; Etsy and Instagram. It has been amazing to see the growth of sustainable, handmade business over the last year and is empowering to think about the opportunities that lie ahead.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
My biggest challenge was getting my foot in the door after university and deciding on an alternative when things didn’t work out.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
In 10 years’ time I see myself having a family of my own. I would love to continue teaching for as I can whilst still continuing my creative passion of art through my jewellery business, Little Lioness. Co.
Who is a woman that inspires you the most and why?
Angelina Jolie. She is a strong, independent and determined woman who always fights for what she believes in. I love that she chooses to use her power as a public figure to fight for the rights of woman and children in the poorest of countries across the world.
